san benito county owes about 5 and a half million dollars in unfunded liability for sick time, vacation time and other time off. the topic was discussed at the county supervisors meeting on june 28th when an employee retired and cashed out more than 100-thousand dollars. currently, department heads and managers in law enforcement have no caps on vacation accruals. all employees can accrue up to 2-thousand hours of sick time and cash out half that amount upon departure.
