A DRUNK DRIVER CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT THAT CLOSED A PORTION OF SOUTHBOUND HIGHWAY-1 FOR ABOUT AN HOUR YESTERDAY NEAR THE FISH HOOK. THE 7:20 A.M. INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY APTOS RESIDENT, 26-YEAR OLD DAVID FAIRBANKS, WHO CRASHED HIS MITSUBISHI INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THAT VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND BOTH OVERTURNED. SEVERAL PASSENGERS IN THE MITSUBISHI SUFFERED INJURIES, WITH ONE OF THEM BEING AIR LIFTED TO AN AREA TRAUMA CENTER. FAIRBANKS WAS ARRESTED FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, WHILE THE 71-YEAR OLD DRIVER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.
