Thank you, Dr. Abene, for standing up for everybody: home owners, visitors to Santa Cruz, local businesses, people who *enjoy* local businesses-- everybody except for a few (and it's a few) whiny neighbors who want to take the fun out of Santa Cruz.

Whiny? Who's it that's whining here, Adam, me or you? Be civil, think of others, pay your taxes, and I'm happy. Screw with me and my quiet enjoyment of my property and we become opponents.

True. It is the few whiney neighbors who are creating all this turmoil. This is what I have to say to the whiney neighbors: f you want a true quiet residential neighborhood without vacation rentals, then move to a place that is not desirable for vacation!!!!

John-- you're not making any friends with this ordinance. Already, Robert Bailey (Bailey Properties), Ted Burke (owner of Shadowbrook and Crow's Nest), the Realtors Association, Santa Cruz Business Council, Senior Alliance and numerous others have formally cast their votes against this. At public hearings, you're seeing 6-to-1 voices against this ordinance.

Please end this unpopular crusade, and go fight other battles.

I was so embaressed for Sup. Leopold that he did not even know the details of his own ordinance; and that's whom we have with the power to affect our community's income and livelihood! Seriously sad and scarey.

No economic impact study has been done yet Leopold finds it ok to pass such an ordinance AND he doesn't even know the details in the ordinance! Maybe having read HIS ordinance before the show would have been a good start? !

How very sad in such an economy when families are already struggling we are fighting each other and not truly watching out for each others and our community's health both financial and otherwise. This ordinance IS flawed. This ordinance IS damaging. This ordinance IS NOT fair and does have favoritism.

John & Ellen,

You should know I will be in your FACE anyplace you are holding meetings publicly, and will be your worst nightmare with all of my homeowner friends politically for this extremely unpopular legislation which you are experimenting with.

If you continue to push this stupid and selfish legislation down our throats - when we need more money in this County, not less. You will feel our wrath! We are your larger CONSTITUENTS, not the small group of selfish, self-centered, weathly complainers.

I will do everything in my power to ensure you never get elected again, if you continue down this path, and this discrimination continues to wast our time and money.

I am retired, and depend on my rentals as I invested here in good faith. We are the entrepreneurs that our Government is supposed to be supporting.

So, get with the program - politicians!

Respectfully,

I was amazed to find out the Supervisor Leopold said on the radio that there was a survey that was sent to all the Vacation Rental managers to verify which homes they were paying the TOT (Transient Occupation Tax of 10% of any rent or any SERVICE ie: Housekeeping, that is part of the rent). After contacting 4 large Property Managers in this area and finding that none of them had recieved this survey, I contacted Leopolds office and they confirmed that they were not aware of any survey. If Leopold is not doing any BASIC data searchs how can we believe any statistic he puts forth?

I'm not clear about why you four are so afraid of an ordinance that solves many of the problems introduced by those who make their living from renting tourists their property.

Paying taxes is part of the cost of doing any business, so that can't be your issue.

Getting along with your neighbors is simply part of civility, so that can't be it either.

So, here's the deal. Pick out the part that has you so angry.

•Registration of vacation rentals with the county (with payment of Transient Occupancy Tax)

•A local contact person for neighbors to call in the event of problems.

•A posted sign at each vacation rental with the name and number of the person to call.

•Cost recovery for the Sheriff's Department when they have to respond to problems at a vacation rental.

•Dispute resolution for problem rental houses.
