Teachers who work in Santa Clara County but live in Santa Cruz County have been unable to get COVID-19 vaccinations. Because they work in Santa Clara County they aren’t eligible for the vaccine there, but Santa Cruz County will provide vaccinations for them.
San Jose Unified has 3,700 employees and 9% of them live in Santa Cruz.
Santa Clara County says that COVID-19 vaccines are for residents but Santa Cruz County is now offering vaccines to those who live here but work over-the-hill.
Jason Hoppin, Santa Cruz County’s communications manager, says “we have agreed to provide vaccinations to teachers whether they live here or work here. You’re contributing to the community either way,” Hoppin said.
The Santa Cruz County Office of Education also announced that 80% of its teachers have received COVID-19 vaccinations, and 700 more of them will be inoculated by the weekend.
