THE SANTA CRUZ TOWN CLOCK IS UNDERGOING SOME INTERNAL WORK FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT REMOVED THE MECHANICAL WORKINGS OF THE CLOCK AND WILL BE REPLACING THEM WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS. THE MOST VISIBLE INDICATION IS THE ABSENCE OF CLOCK HANDS ON ALL FOUR SIDES. THE TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLAR PROJECT IS PART OF THE CITY’S CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN.
THE CLOCK WAS ORIGINALLY AT THE ODD FELLOWS BUILDING ON PACIFIC AVE SOUTH OF COOPER STREET BUT WAS MOVED TO ITS CURRENT LOCATION IN 1976 TO CELEBRATE THE COUNTRY’S BICENTENNIAL.
