3 PEOPLE WERE SHOT AND KILLED THIS AFTERNOON IN SANTA CRUZ. 28 year veteran of the Santa Cruz Police force, Sergeant Butch Baker; and 10 year veteran Detective Elizabeth Butler, were shot and killed around 3:30 this afternoon, DURING AN INVESTIGATION ON THE 800 BLOCK OF NORTH BRANCIFORTE AVENUE (BETWEEN SUNNYSIDE AVENUE AND DOYLE STREET). About 30 minutes later, their shooter (35 year-old Jeremy Peter Goulet) was shot and killed ON DOYLE STREET (DURING A CHASE WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS). DURING THE INVESTIGATION OF THOSE SHOOTINGS, NUMEROUS STREETS WERE CLOSED, AND AREA SCHOOLS WERE LOCKED-DOWN.
SANTA CRUZ POLICE CHIEF KEVIN VOGEL SAID HIS DEPARTMENT IS IN MOURNING, AND THAT IT WAS A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE DAY FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE COMMUNITY OF SANTA CRUZ.
THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HAS TAKEN OVER THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION OF THESE SHOOTINGS.
