Out of control revelers celebrating New Years Eve in downtown Santa Cruz, can expect to be penalized with triple fines this year. Police say they plan to have extra patrols throughout the city with all available officers working to enforce safety that night. The triple-fine “safety enhancement zone” is expected to cover the downtown area and will run from 5 p.m December 31st to 5 a.m. January 1st. Triple fine citations will include $288 tickets for littering, $576 tickets for graffiti, and for urinating in public and over a thousand dollar tickets will be issued for destroying plants.
