Santa Cruz Metro Bus Bunching Launch 06-22-2020 0640 JS

In the era of social distancing, Santa Cruz Metro had to greatly reduce the capacity of their buses in order to keep passengers apart from each other.

As a result, some passengers were getting passed up as the buses were at capacity. Alex Clifford, CEO of Santa Cruz Metro, shares his solution to those originally stranded as a result of this policy change…

“Starting on June 25, we’re going to be running extra buses, Clifford said. “That bus that may run on a route at a particular time of day may have a bus trailing behind it”. Clifford mentions that every time a bus passes a passenger that the bus operator has been logging it in order to determine where additional capacity is needed.

This influx of additional bus fleet and operators is thanks to the reduced amount of classes and summer activity at UCSC as well as other educational institutions.

Those who want to learn more about the new summer schedule or other public transit-related questions may reach Santa Cruz Metro by calling 831.425.8600 or visiting their website at SCMTD.Com
