Several dozen Santa Cruz residents spoke against an already approved hotel development plan during a public hearing last night. The meeting was held to review parking changes for the 4-story, 111 room Hyatt Place Hotel, slated to be built on Broadway near Ocean Street. Critics argue the hotel would bring in more traffic to an already congested area, and that a commercial building would not mesh with the neighborhood, which already faces several public safety issues such as drug sales and prostitution. Despite opposition, city council members approved the changes in a 5-to-1 vote.
