New unemployment numbers for Santa Cruz County are the lowest they’ve been in five years. Unemployment for September dropped to 7.3%, the lowest this year, while numbers rose slightly last month to 7.5%, the lowest for that month since 2008. The jobless rate for the City of Santa Cruz is 6.2%, with 2100 people looking for work. Since 2009, part-time employees went up from 11% to 13%, and full time workers dropped from 88.5% to 87%. Unemployment this time a year ago was at 9%.
