Santa Cruz County is taking small steps toward its long term goal of reopening all district school campuses next year. This week the Santa Cruz City School District re-opened two schools with a limited number of students.
The Santa Cruz District is keeping sixth, seventh and eighth graders in small learning groups meeting outdoors. Some 28 students are split into two groups of 14 for learning.
These students are considered most at need because distance learning has not been a successful tool for them.
The goal is for all Santa Cruz County Public school districts begin using a model that combines distance and in-person learning with health safety protocols to protect students.
