Santa Cruz County officials have received federal funds for flood control planning on the Pajaro River. The river has flooded a number of times, causing millions of dollars in damage, displacing hundreds of residents, and even causing one death. Local politician Sam Farr announced yesterday that the Army Corps of Engineers will use $700,000 to conduct a study looking into the feasibility of a project. Once the study is completed, county officials hope to secure funding to update the levees along the river. The study is expected to be completed by 2016.
