Santa Cruz County public health officials have issued a rabid bat advisory. A bat recently brought into the county’s animal shelter has tested positive for rabies. The animal was found on Escalona Drive near Miramar on the Westside. Two dogs have been quarantined after possible exposure to the virus. No human exposures have been reported. The public is being asked to avoid touching dead or injured bats and report all animal bites.
