Santa cruz county supervisors have approved a 387-million dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget maintains furloughs for county employees, and includes a new pension formula for new employees. Unlike previous years, there were no layoffs. In fact, the county added a few employees, as county leaders expand local health care programs (such as medicruz advantage). That program is a temporary way of providing insurance for low-income residents until medi-cal is expanded in 2014. Funding in the budget was earmarked for a trail from cabrillo college to the forest of Nicene marks. there will also be more funding set aside for the simpkins family swim center.
