The Santa Cruz County District Attorney has issued a stern warning for those looking to take advantage of those who fell victim to the CZU August Lightning Complex Fire.
Here’s what DA Jeffery Rosell had to say…
“If you come to these victimized communities, and you try to take advantage of them, we are going to prosecute you to the full extent of the law.”
“There are other people that are taking advantage in a different way: Price gouging. I’ve heard about various hotels and other things that are trying to take advantage of other people. If we find out about that, we’re coming after you too.”, Rosell said at a Sunday afternoon press conference.
Additionally, a victim of the CZU Wildfire has told KSCO that a local hotel in Santa Cruz has gradually increased their hotel pricing throughout Wednesday through Friday of last week, going from approximately $140 upwards of $230.
4 arrests have been made according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
