SANTA CRUZ CITY OFFICIALS HAVE APPROVED A PLAN TO TEAR DOWN A HISTORIC BUILDING ON THE BOARDWALK. THE CITY COUNCIL VOTED EARLIER THIS WEEK ON THE FUTURE OF LA BAHIA HOTEL ON BEACH STREET, WHICH HAS REMAINED IN DISREPAIR FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. A MAJORITY OF THE BUILDING WILL BE DEMOLISHED. THE PROPERTY’S OWNER IS SEEKING TO BUILD A NEW HOTEL ON THE SITE. THE PROPOSED PROJECT NOW HEADS TO THE COASTAL COMMISSION FOR REVIEW.
