Santa Clara County Supervisors approved a ban on plastic bags yesterday. The ban takes effect January 1st, and is expected to be applied to businesses in the county’s unincorporated area, an estimated 56-retailers who issue about 32,000 plastic bags a year. Under the new law, paper bags will not be able to be distributed for free and will be sold for 15-cents each. Stores in violation will be fined up to $500.
