A Santa Ana man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a UC Santa Cruz graduate. Officials say a man broke into the home of Kyla Ree Annan in Reno, Nevada on two separate occasions in September 2004. On the second occasion, Annan was sexually assaulted and strangled to death. Investigators collected DNA evidence from clothes left at the scene and Annan’s autopsy. A match was found earlier this year, linking 32-year-old Francisco Merino-Ojeda to the crime. Merino-Ojeda was recently arrested at his home on suspicion of murder, burglary, and sexual assault.
