Employees in Sand City are the third highest paid workers in the state. According to the State Controller’s Office, people in the Central Coast city earn nearly $91,000 a year, ranking it third for highest pay for city workers. Sand City mayor David Pendergrass attributes big retailers in the area for the city’s thriving economy, adding that the city’s revenue is more than it’s expenses. He maintains the city is able to keep expenses low by providing it’s own water supply and contracting it’s fire services, building inspections and car repairs.
