A yearlong hydrological investigation, by the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency, assessed the condition of underground water resources in the Mid-County area. The purpose was to figure out how close the Saltwater Intrusion is to the onshore aquifers. They determined that Saltwater Intrusion is an imminent threat in the Capitola area. Along the coastline of the Northern portion of the bay, the Near Surface Aquifer still contained fresh groundwater, however, the Deeper Aquifer contains brack-ish water.
