The city of Salinas has won a 10-million dollar grant to help increase the area’s water supply. The money would be used to get Pure Water Monterey up and operational. It’s a collaborative effort to take different water sources (such as agricultural run-off, storm water and produce wash water), and put them through a 4-step advanced purification process. The purified water would then be injected back into the local groundwater basin. Once P-W-M is working at capacity, it’s expected to be able to supply 35-hundred acre-feet of drinking water, and an additional 44-hundred acre-feet of water for agricultural uses.
