This week’s freezing temperatures have caused damages in the millions to this year’s lemon crop. A vintner, who grows about 10% of the 1,000 acres of lemon orchards in the Santa Lucia Highlands says the overnight 27-degree weather has caused a roughly 5% production loss as of Wednesday night. Last year the grower claims his lemon crop generated a gross value of 15.2 million dollars countywide. The grower said wind machines along with a helicopter were used this week in an effort to help generate heat.
