A man was arrested today after falsely reporting that he was a victim of an armed robbery. 22-year old Matthew Vowles told officers that he was robbed after 2 men pointed a gun at him while he was riding his bike on the 1100 block of Eagle Drive in Salinas. Police instead learned that Vowles tried stealing spare tires from the so-called suspect, who reportedly tried scaring Vowles by pointing a BB gun at him, after learning that he tried stealing his tires. Vowles admitted to police that he falsified the robbery report and told officers he was out all night stealing tires. He was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of filing a false police report, possession of burglary tools and violation of probation.
