The city of Salinas has tied with several other cities for its air quality. A spokesperson for the American Lung Association says that Salinas tied for cleanest city (as far as air quality) based on its zero unhealthy ozone days, and one of the lowest particle pollution levels. The city is said to benefit from its coastal influence, as well as some other factors.
