SALINAS TAX MEASURE-10/6/14-2153-PMD

SALINAS VOTERS ARE TO DECIDE ON 2 TAX MEASURES NEXT MONTH.   CITY OFFICIALS ANNOUNCED ON FRIDAY THAT THE 13-THOUSAND PETITION SIGNATURES, NEEDED TO ADD A 1 CENT SAFETY TAX MEASURE TO THE BALLOT, HAVE BEEN VERIFIED BY THE COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE. IF APPROVED BY VOTERS IT WOULD BRING IN 20 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY, TO BE USED ONLY FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, PRIMARILY FOR POLICE TO BATTLE GANG VIOLENCE. THE OTHER 1 CENT TAX MEASURE ON THE BALLOT, MEASURE G, IF PASSED WOULD PUT 20-MILLION DOLLARS INTO THE CITY’S GENERAL FUND.
