The City of Salinas is working to prepare two local tax measures for the November ballot. The Salinas City Council voted yesterday to move forward with the development of a measure that would extend the existing Measure V half cent sales tax another 9 years, and raise it to a full penny. They also voted to revise a local utility tax, lowering the rate that users pay from 6% to 5%. Both decisions come after a poll conducted by a San Mateo based polling firm revealed that close to 70% of respondents said they would vote for both tax changes.
