The names of the 2 Santa Cruz Police Officers killed in the line of duty this afternoon have been released, and their shooter has been identified. 28 year veteran of the Santa Cruz Police force, Sergeant Butch Baker; and 10 year veteran Detective Elizabeth Butler, were shot and killed around 3:30 this afternoon. About 30 minutes later, their shooter (35 year-old Jeremy Peter Goulet) was shot and killed during a chase down Doyle Street. It was not initially known if Goulet was working by himself or not, so as a precaution, those areas were cordoned off and searched. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department now says that investigators have determined that Goulet acted on his own.
