Due to an online petition the Salinas City Council will consider a motion to defund police. The petition wants to to cut the police budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Another petition is circulating in response calling for more police funding. Salinas has recently submitted a request to the Monterey County Grand Jury for an audit of some of the police department’s programs.
