SALINAS OFFICIALS ARE SEEKING INVOLVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MONTEREY COUNTY’S NEW JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER. IN A PRESS CONFERENCE YESTERDAY (MON), SALINAS MAYOR JOE GUNTER AND CITY COUNCILMAN TONY BARRERA PROPOSED MERGING TWO EXISTING FACILITIES: JUVENILE HALL AND THE MONTEREY COUNTY YOUTH CENTER. IF THE BUILDINGS ARE CONSOLIDATED, CITY LEADERS HOPE TO HOUSE OTHER NON-PROFITS GEARED TOWARDS YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE VACATED YOUTH CENTER BUILDING.
