FOR THE 2ND TIME IN A WEEK THE SALINAS CHIEF OF POLICE ADDRESSED THE PUBLIC. YESTERDAY AT ABOUT 3 P-M CHIEF KELLY MCMILLIN HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE URGING THE PUBLIC TO REMAIN CALM AND PEACEFUL. THE SPEECH CAME IN RESPONSE TO A RIOT AND MURDER IN THE WAKE OF THE POLICE SHOOTING DEATH OF A FIELD WORKER 44 YEAR OLD CARLOS MEJIA LAST WEEK. MCMILLIN STATED THAT THE RESULTS OF AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SHOOTING WILL BE TURNED OVER TO THE F-B-I AND THE U-S DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR REVIEW. STATE ASSEMBLYMAN LUIS ALEJO ALSO SPOKE AT THE CONFERENCE URGING PATIENCE AND RESTRAINT.
