The Salinas Fire Department has applied for a grant from F-E-M-A. Money from the “Safer” grant would allow the department to hire 6 more firefighters, and a paramedic squad. Right now the department only has 59 firefighters to serve the needs of the 140,000 residents of the largest city on the Central Coast.
