Salinas fire fighters stopped a back yard fire from destroying nearby dwellings. Smoke from the fire could be seen from all over Salinas when a personal watercraft caught fire in the back yard of a home near West Laurel and Monroe streets. Arriving fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the back yard. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
