IN SALINAS, THE FIRST FATAL ACCIDENT FOR 2014, TOOK PLACE ON NEW YEAR’S DAY. THE 26 YEAR-OLD DRIVER DIED, AND HIS 43 YEAR-OLD PASSENGER WAS AIR-LIFTED TO A BAY AREA TRAUMA CENTER WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER THE DRIVER (WHILE LEADING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE IN SALINAS), RAN HIS CADILLAC INTO 2 LIGHT POLES AND A CONCRETE TRESTLE NEAR EAST ALISAL AND FRONT STREETS.
3 PEOPLE WERE ALSO INJURED IN A HEAD-ON CRASH ON HIGHWAY 9 IN BROOKDALE THIS WEEK. ALL 3 PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THAT ACCIDENT WERE AIR-LIFTED TO A BAY AREA TRAUMA CENTER.
