Salinas Mayor, Dennis Donahue is expected to deliver his annual budget message this morning. According to Donahue, the city remains with a low tax base, still too low he believes, to bridge the gap of service expectations and public safety concerns. Donohue maintains the city continues to aggressively reach out to state and federal agencies for resources in the fight against gang violence, but warns that the city still needs to assume more financial responsibility in that regard. Donahue says he expects multi-million dollar cuts and the City Council will likely debate that issue in the coming weeks.
