Because of limited citywide operations and closed businesses per the shelter-in-place order, the cities of Salinas and Santa Cruz have announced projected deficits.
Starting with Salinas, potential layoffs are under discussion. This Monterey County-based city is projecting a 10 to 14-million dollar revenue shortfall.
Half the revenue comes from the sales tax for Salinas.
As for Santa Cruz, a general fund deficit of 10-million dollars is projected.
Discussions on how to address this projected deficit will take place at a Santa Cruz City Council meeting on Tuesday.
Santa Cruz residents will be able to learn more about this deficit by attending the virtual meeting and viewing the council agenda at CityofSantaCruz.com/CityCouncil
