Salinas firefighters responded to a car and brush fire on Highway 101, Saturday afternoon. At about 3:30 p-m a driver noticed flames coming from the engine compartment and pulled to the side of the roadway, The vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames and the blaze spread to nearby vegetation. Arriving fire crews extinguished the fire and contained the burn to less than a quarter of an acre. No injuries have been reported.
