THE CITY OF SALINAS HAS PROPOSED A NEW HOMELESS WOMEN’S SHELTER TO BE SET-UP INSIDE A FORMER NIGHT CLUB. NEGOTIATIONS ARE UNDERWAY TO CONVERT THE COPACAVANA CLUB AT THE END OF SOLEDAD STREET INTO A SAFE HAVEN. THE PROPOSAL IS IN RESPONSE TO CHINATOWN SHELTERS STRUGGLING TO ACCOMMODATE THE CITY’S POPULATION OF HOMELESS WOMEN AND CHILDREN. THE SHELTER WOULD BE FUNDED BY COMMUNITY BLOCK GRANTS.
