A former employee with the Salinas Police Department pleaded no contest last week to 2-counts of sexual intercourse with a minor. As part of the plea deal, 28-year-old Scott Callan will not have to register as a sex offender. Callan had faced more than a dozen charges, relating to his abuse of a 16-year-old that he had met in the Salinas Police Department’s Explorer Program (for young people). Callan is expected to be sentenced to 3-years in prison, when he returns to court on January 20th.
