ABOUT 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED LAST NIGHT’S MEETING ABOUT THE DESALINATION PLANT PROPOSED FOR SANTA CRUZ’ WESTSIDE. SOME PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PLANT’S IMPACT ON MARINE LIFE, WHILE OTHERS QUESTION WHETHER THE FACILITY IS WHAT IS REALLY NEEDED IN THIS AREA. TO RESOLVE THEIR WATER WOES, THE SOQUEL CREEK WATER DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING EITHER A 35 PERCENT WATER CURTAILMENT, OR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROPOSED DESALINATION PLANT.
AS PROPOSED, THE PLANT WOULD BE LOCATED NEAR NATURAL BRIDGES AND DELAWARE AVENUE…AND IT EACH DAY IT COULD TRANSFORM UP TO 7 MILLION GALLONS OF SEAWATER INTO 2.5 MILLION GALLONS OF DRINKING WATER.
