Governor Brown signed a bill on Friday, that imposes a 150-dollar fee on rural property owners in the state. The wildfire protection fee is expected to generate 50-million dollars this fiscal year, and 200-million dollars in future years. The state spends roughly 177-million dollars every year to fight fires. Republicans plan to challenge that fee, as well as a 12-dollar increase in the vehicle registration fee. They say those measures need the approval of 2-thirds of lawmakers.
