Santa Cruz county supervisors have approved new rules for Accessory Dwelling Units. The amended rules have changed the height allowances from 13 to 17 feet, and where the larger (1200 square-feet) A-D-U’s used to have to be built on parcels of 2.5 acres or more, they can now be built on parcels as small as 1 acre. These changes were made in response to a state law that requires counties to make building A-D-U’s more affordable for homeowners.
