The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission adopted the final master plan for the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network project this week. The master plan defines the “rail trail”, a bicycle and pedestrian trail system that will use the Santa Cruz Branch rail line to transport people across coastal bluffs, over river gorges and through strawberry fields. The plan is a future blueprint, detailing estimated costs, design standards, and prioritization criteria for the project, that’s expected to take years to complete, with a price tag of over 126-million dollars. A “call for projects” has already been issued to local jurisdictions.
