It’s not yet clear how the eviction of residents from the Ross Homeless Encampment will go today. Residents of the camp are being offered space at a new campsite located at 1220 River, intended to house perhaps 200 homeless and do so in safer conditions. The new site had been used during much of 2018 for a similar homeless camp.
Santa Cruz police say they will be monitoring today’s move, amid some social media threats to disrupt the transition between the two campsites. Local homeless advocates denied being the source of any threats.
The move is expected to be complete by day’s end, though getting residents situated in homeless housing is an ongoing issue for Santa Cruz.
