Rock Scully passed away at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after battling lung cancer, last Tuesday. Scully is best known for his role in shaping the path of the Grateful Dead as manager of the rock band from 1965 to 1985. He was a longtime resident of the Central Coast, and attended grade school in Carmel where he met Representative Sam Farr in the 6th grade. The two also went to high school together, and eventually spent time together working on a humanitarian aid project in Europe. Scully was 73-years-old when he lost his fight with cancer.
