A man crashed his car into the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz last night and then killed himself. Police say the man deliberately rammed through the front doors of the Rio, destroying the ticket window at about 10:45. Once inside, the man used broken shards of glass and stabbed himself in the neck and upper torso. Police arrived and attempted life saving measures. The driver, however resisted the officer’s attempt to provide first aid. He was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries. Police say the driver is a 34-year old Santa Cruz resident who has a history of drug, alcohol and theft related contacts. The driver’s identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
