Monterey County officials have chosen to protect each grower’s “right to farm”. The Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance that protects growers from “nuisance claims”, because it includes a requirement to notify future property owners that some adjacent lands are farm lands and, as such, crop-dusting, tractor work and harvesting could occur at any time. Members of the Monterey County Farm Bureau participated in the process to make sure the “notification element” stayed in the ordinance.
