Women who work at the State Capitol earn less than males who work the same job, according to a study by the Sacramento Bee. For every dollar earned by men, women working for the State Assembly earn 92 cents, and 94 cents in the Senate. The study analyzed over 2,100 workers. The five top-paid workers in both houses are also men. The National Partnership for Women and Families has estimated that this inequity costs $37 billion annually to women in California. Recently, state lawmakers have proposed measures that would close the pay gap.
