Report on salinas police 07/12/11 5p.m. TDH

A state report on the salinas police department was released yesterday.   The report by the california commission on police officer safety and training said that the department is facing morale issues, due to budget constraints.  Most notably, the report said the fact that staffing levels are down 17-percent from the department’s high, is making some officers feel unprepared to fulfill their duty.   The report credited chief louis fetherolf for continuing to lobby for increased funding.  It did, however, note that officers feel the chief could improve officer morale by dedicating more time to them, instead of doing so much community outreach.   Some officers also were concerned that other officers were rude to the public.   The report came up with 26-recommendations for the department to improve.
