AFTER FOUR YEARS, A CONTROVERSIAL ROADWAY ON THE FORMER FORT ORD IS REOPENING. SUPERVISORS IN MONTEREY COUNTY APPROVED A PLAN YESTERDAY TO REOPEN INTER-GARRISON ROAD TO THROUGH TRAFFIC, DESPITE CONCERNS FROM HIKERS AND CYCLISTS. THE 0.7-MILE SECTION OF ROAD, WHICH LINKS SALINAS TO THE MONTEREY PENINSULA, WILL OPEN UNDER CERTAIN SAFETY PARAMETERS SUCH AS ENFORCING NO PARKING RESTRICTIONS, REDUCING THE SPEED LIMIT FROM 55 TO 35-MILES-PER-HOUR AND ADDING TRAFFIC CONTROLS AT SCHOONOVER ROAD.
