Residents of a capitola mobile home park have lost a legal challenge to the city’s new rent control ordinance. 19-residents of the surf and sand park (on 47th avenue) had filed suit against the city, after city leaders made several changes to the rent control ordinance. City leaders are still in the process of retracting the policy altogether, however the controls have already been altered at surf and sand, after the city settled a lawsuit this year with the park’s owner. Residents worry that their rent will rise too fast, however a santa cruz county judge ruled that the new ordinance is legal.
